iCare 5K Walk For Foster Care

In an effort to engage and mobilize the community iCare Foundation will present the first annual “ iCare 5K Walk/Run For Foster Care.” The Event will include a parenting class, a concert , activities for children, a readers corner, vendors and much more. Music while you walk/rn will motivate young and old to step in rhythm while they help raise funds and awareness of foster care issues.

The iCare 5K Walk For Foster Care will take place on July 16, 2008 and will be held at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, CA.

We invite churches, business organizations, community based organizations, families, and coworkers to develop teams to walk and fundraise together. Sign up today at www.walkforfostercare.org.

Youth in transition nationally

Each year, an estimated 21,720 young people “age out” of the U.S. foster care system. Many are only 18 years old and still need support and services. Several foster care alumni studies show that without a lifelong connection to a caring adult, these older youth are often left vulnerable to a host of adverse situations:

02% Obtained a Bachelor’s degree or higher

84% Became a parent

51% Were unemployed

30% Had no health insurance

25% Had been homeless

30% Were receiving public assistance

Just imagine, in the year 2020, if nothing changes in child welfare trends, there will be over 9,000,000 children who will experience the foster care system! “We” as a community must not allow this to happen!
